Please help stop the 4-1-1 MOT and sign the petition 'stop the Government’s proposed changes to MOT frequency.'
The government is planning on extending light vehicles 1st MOT due date from from 3 - 4 years.
The government claims that this could save motorists money. The retail price of a Class 4 MOT is £54.85. This is a small price to pay for road safety.
An extended 1st MOT will affect the amount of repair work carried out meaning there will be more un safe vehicles on the road, jeopardising the safety of other motorists.
The UK Government will respond to the petition at 10,000 signatures, but the Independent Garage Association are aiming to reach 100,000 signatures so the subject will be considered for debate in parliament. While the petition is open for six months, the new MOT consultation period ends on 1st March 2023.

These pictures show the condition of old parts vs new. You can see the difference in colour of the filters. It is important to maintain regular servicing not only to prolong the life of your vehicle but also for your own safety.
A service includes important safety checks that are not part of the MOT. This particular vehicle was found to have low tyre pressures and a missing locking wheel nut key. If the customer had a puncture they would not be able to change the wheel and could find themselves stranded on a busy road.
